Horse flies are a nuisance to horse owners, let alone horses, in the summer months. The furtive flies arrive silently, always landing out of sight, and start their vicious attack. Did you know that they have a mouth like a pair of sabres and slash their way through the victim’s skin? The local anaesthetic and blood anticoagulant contained in the flies’ saliva causes the victim’s body to produce histamine which induces the swelling and itching response.
