Many pet owners hate to see their beloved pets slowing down and growing stiff with age. But for photographer Nancy LeVine, she saw a profound beauty and honesty in her two ageing dogs, Maxie and LuLu. She began photographing them, documenting their lives as they grew older. She then worked with poet Joseph Duemer to publish her first book, “A Dog’s Book of Truths.” The book pairs photographs of her dogs with insightful prose that is at times humorous, and at other times deeply thought-provoking. New Study Reveals Children with Pets Develop Fewer Allergies

The results of a long-term study were published in last month’s edition of the medical journal, “Clinical & Experimental Allergy.” The study followed 565 children from birth until they turned 18, to research whether exposure to animals at a young age increased their risk of allergies. Many new parents struggle with the thought of rehoming their pets when they’re expecting a baby. Hopefully this study can allay their fears and enable many pets to stay put, because the research indicates having a dog or cat in the home does not increase the risk of allergies later in life.
